The following select utilizes the left, up, right, down, escape, page up, page down, home, and end key commands. Left and Up arrows move to a previous item. Right and Down arrows move to the next item. Page Up and Home will take you to the very first item in the list. Page Down and End will take you the very last item in the list. Company History
All about family...
Revolutionizing the wallpaper and blinds business might not seem like an obvious choice for a kid from Michigan,
but for Steve Katzman, it’s been a family affair from the beginning.
The story of how great customer service came to be considered a family value.
1950
Steve’s father and grandfather opened Kay & Kay Tile more than 72 years ago in Detroit, Michigan. At the age of 10, Steve began working there on the weekends and during the summer months.
For the next 12 years, Steve watched and learned the family’s business and as he did, he discovered that the secret to business success was no secret: Give your customers great products, the lowest prices and incredible service and they’ll keep coming back.
It’s a lesson that stuck with Steve and one that he’s used to help guide him on his way to becoming one of the most recognizable and respected names in the Blinds and Wallpaper business.
1986
Steve and his family expand their business to Illinois and open a retail chain called Mrs. Kay’s Wallpaper, Blinds & More.
They also launch a mail order company selling blinds and wallpaper called American Blind & Wallpaper Factory.
1993
Steve and his family own more than 30 retail stores between Michigan and Illinois and the mail order business is processing in excess of 300,000 consumer orders annually.
The company pioneers many of the industry’s now-common business practices such as quick shipping and offering products from all of the major national brands.
Steve and his family sell all 3 companies. Steve stays on and with the support of the company’s new owners, focuses on the mail order business and introduces blinds and wallpaper to the internet.
1999
The mail order and internet business becomes the largest direct response company in the United States for special order blinds and wallpaper, processing more than 600,000 orders annually.
2006
American Blind & Wallpaper Factory was sold to an investment group and Steve decided to leave the company and spend time with his family. It didn’t take long for Steve and his father to decide to put their more than 60 years of knowledge and experience to work again, and in December 2006, Steve’s Blinds & Wallpaper was launched.
